2018 Advisory Council for Bosnia and Herzegovina GALA 

On May 5th, 2018 in Washington D.C., the Advisory Council for Bosnia and Herzegovina awarded The Friendship Award to Bill Carter, filmmaker, author and Northern Arizona University Professor. He was given the award “in appreciation of your tireless commitment to human rights and the brave humanitarian actions that he undertook during the war in Bosnia and Herzegovina.” Mr. Carter was recognized for his efforts to connect the besieged city of Sarajevo with the outside world with the help of Bono and the band U2 via satellite during U2 concerts. Carter also wrote a book, “Fools Rush In” documenting this period and made the award-winning documentary “Miss Sarajevo.” He spoke about the perseverance of Bosnians who were grappling with the insurmountable challenges of war, and the lessons they can teach us today.

Also honored on this evening for work their work on behalf of Bosnia were President Bill Clinton and General Wesley Clark, former NATO commander.

Puerto Rico

Bill Carter, in conjunction with MIT Sloan School of Management, made a documentary on the efforts of MIT in helping to establish micro electrical grids in Puerto Rico after the overwhelming damage from hurricane Maria. Watch the video here.

Arizona State Museum

In April 2018 Bill Carter made a short documentary film on Michael Kotuwa Johnson and Hopi farming titled: The Resiliency of Hopi Argiculture: 2,000 Years of Planting. The film is included in a collaboration with Michael Johnson and opened at the Arizona State Museum in April and will be on display until June 2019. After which it will travel state wide and nationally. Watch the video here.

Chile and Argentina with MIT

Bill Carter traveled to Chile and Argentina with MIT to make small documentary clips on the issue of Crypto-Currency. The aim of these pieces was for educational purposes. Carter was able to secure funding to take a Creative Media and Film student, who in ten days had access to world renowned thinkers, faculty members and was able to learn in real time how to properly film a project that had immediate impact.

U2 Reunion

On September 19, 2017 Bill traveled to Arizona Cardinal Stadium to reunite with U2 to commemorate the 20 year anniversary of the concert Carter and U2 put on in war torn Sarajevo on September 21st, 1997, two years after the war. Bono created this video in that honor.

Bill Carter did an interview on N1, the national news channel in Bosnia, and a CNN affiliate.

Miss Sarajevo featured in Australia

Bill Carter’s Miss Sarajevo was featured on August 26th, 2017 at the Jewish Holocaust Centre in Melbourne, Australia. Also present was the ambassador from Bosnia to Australia. He spoke on the importance of the film to Bosnia.
